Over 72,000 Demand Reinstatement of Dr. Chihombori-Quao

Washington DC, October 28, 2019 (CABNC): Over 72,000 Africans have signed a petition demanding the reinstatement of the African Union Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, who was sacked in an unprecedented move by the African Union Commission Chairman, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat. In a letter dated 7 October 2019, the Chairman had said it is an “honour” for him to inform her of the contract termination as an Ambassador effective from the 1st of November 2019.

The letter as seen by CABNC, H.E. Mahamat instructed the Commission’s concerned services through the Bureau of the Deputy Chairperson to facilitate the separation procedures and entitlements before the end of October. There was no reason provided in the letter why H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat had unilaterally decided to relieve her of the position of an Ambassador.

Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao termination letter

The reason for her dismissal may not be far fetched. Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao whose appointment is just over 2 years have been fully committed to reinforcing the longstanding and deeply historic, cultural and economic relations between Africa,  the U.S. and Western nations. As an activist, she spares no rod in exposing corruption in high places, defending the rights of Africans, and plays a key role in reinforcing the African Union’s strategic partnerships grounded on shared values, respect and mutual interests.

At HBCU Africa Homecoming Media Launch in June,  Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, offered a masterful history lesson breaking down how Africa was divided into tiny little countries during the Berlin Conference of 1884 and how the nations of Africa are still being adversely impacted. Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao also dissected “the pact for the continuation of colonization”. She had exposed how the Republic of France has sustained colonization and how it has been siphoning $500billion from the African continent yearly. This is perceived as an attack gone too far.

If Africans do not defend Africa, who will?  CABNC fact-check shows that through France’s monetary imposition of the CFA franc currency, the French are continuing their colonialist policy in Africa. This is a worthy cause to fight for and H.E. Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao has been up to the task. The African Union with the full support of all African nations should immediately declare the termination of the CFA in West and Central Africa. Every African nation has a right to be sovereign and control its own currency.

Africans at home and in the diaspora have begun petition insisting on her reinstatement as the African Union Permanent Ambassador to the United States.

Who is Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao?

Like many first-generation immigrants, Chihombori-Quao traveled to America to pursue an education. A graduate of Fisk University and Meharry Medical College, she holds a Bachelors’s degree in General Chemistry, a Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry, and a Doctor of Medicine Degree.

After completing her medical residency in 1992, Chihombori-Quao settled in Murfreesboro, Tennessee – located in the southern region of the US – to open a medical practice. Soon after, she, along with her husband, Ghanaian physician, Saban Nii Quao, opened a chain of family medical clinics in the state.

Her entrepreneurial DNA led her to purchase the historic Durban Manor Hotel – once a whites-only all-male hotel and club – now a place for cultural heritage tourism and intellectual engagement. In a greater ironic twist, she purchased a 15,000-square-foot plantation, sprawled across 30 acres of land on the hills of Gallatin, Tennessee, christening it Africa House.

Alongside her career and business investments are her humanitarian efforts to promote women’s rights around the globe, and improve healthcare systems in Africa.

During her tenure as Chair of the African Union-African Diaspora Health Initiative (AU-ADHI), she led a delegation of medical professionals made up of other diasporans and ‘Friends of Africa’ living in Tennessee. They used their own money and resources to travel back to Africa on missions in Malawi, Equatorial Guinea, and elsewhere, to improve healthcare in the most deserved regions. The delegation donated supplies and trained healthcare workers in the various district and regional hospitals.

Still committed to engaging and promoting the efforts of the diaspora, Chihombori-Quao now does so through her official role as the AU’s permanent ambassador.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

  1. Dr. Anthony Ossei October 12, 2019

Is Africa free? What a disgrace. Her immediate reinstatement is unequivocally demanded. It will be an honour for the AU Chairperson to tender in his resignation for caving in to external pressure to personally terminate this distinguished persons appointment.
    Please quietly reinstate her.

  2. MOHAMED NASIR November 28, 2019

the French and the Belgians competed with the British, Spanish and Portuguese to inflict pain and death on the continents of africa, asia and south america. long after the other parties have devised more suttle ways of exploitation, the french singularly remain the worst of colonialist on the ocntinent while pretending to be good catholics. Dr Arikana did nothing wrong. she was just telling the truth. the western world would have raised hell if this injustice was not perpetrated on africans. they keep quite because they all benefit from it. where is the justice, where are their valuse and ethics?
