Lagos Fire: Governor Sanwoolu Sets up N2b Emergency Fund for Victims

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwoolu has set up a 2billion Naira Emergency fund to assist victims of Sunday fire disaster at Abule Ado

He disclosed that three banks have already opened accounts for the fund.

Governor Sanwoolu who was at the scene of the incident expressed shock, saying “I must confess I have never seen anything of this magnitude before, it’s like a war zone.”

He also said an investigative committee  has been set up to look into the incident, headed by the deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat.

A fire outbreak at Abule Ado over the weekend wreaked havoc on several houses, including a Girls high school, Bethlehem Girls College.

Nineteen persons have so far been confirmed killed in the disaster, sixteen bodies pulled out from wreckage by the National Emergency Management Agency while three died at the Naval hospital in the state.

Rescue mission is still ongoing in the area as bulldozers continue to clear the rubbles.
